What actually happens on a day of silence
A plain walk-through of One Day Silence in Rosmalen, hour by hour, what it is, what it is not, and why one held day of quiet does more than it sounds like.
People often ask what a whole day of silence is actually like. Not the idea of it, but the real thing: what you do, what happens to time, what you leave with. Here is an honest walk-through.
What is One Day Silence?
One Day Silence is one held day of stillness, one-on-one, guided by Geert Jan in Rosmalen. It is not a course and not a cure. It is a day where the world is allowed to wait, so that you can hear whatever has been quietly living underneath the noise. The day moves through four movements: silence, ceremony, meditation, and sound.
What does the day look like, hour by hour?
It begins early, with a small opening ritual to arrive. From that point on, we stop speaking. What follows is a slow choreography, shaped entirely around you and your nervous system:
- Morning. Guided meditation, a slow turning inward. Breath, then body, then simply being here.
- Midday. A simple plant-based meal, eaten in silence. You taste what you usually swallow without noticing.
- Afternoon. Ninety minutes of sound healing on the mat: singing bowls, gong, monochord, and voice. For many this is the deepest part of the day.
- Toward evening. A closing ceremony. Silence opens back into words, over tea, and you share something of what came up, only if you want to.
Do I need any experience with meditation?
No. The whole day is built so you can come without any prior practice. Silence is not a skill you have to be good at, it is a state, and you are guided there gently. Many people who come are living with stress, sleeplessness, or the tail end of burn-out. The day is paced so your system can soften, with no pressure to meditate well.
What do people feel afterward?
Most describe it less as learning something new and more as remembering something they already knew. The quiet does not end when the day does. It tends to stay with you longer than you expect, in how you sleep that night, in how you speak the next morning, in the small gap that appears between a moment and your reaction to it.
How do I come for one?
One Day Silence is offered by donation, so no price stands between you and a day of rest. You choose a month, name a few days that feel right, and Geert Jan confirms your day with you personally. If you are not sure yet, that is welcome too, you can simply write first, and we feel whether there is resonance.
